Gourmet popcorn, popped in small batches

Gourmet popcorn is popcorn made in small batches and finished with a real coating or seasoning, such as caramel, cheddar, chocolate or a kettle-style sugar glaze, rather than the oil and salt of movie or microwave popcorn. The difference is method and freshness: gourmet popcorn is coated by hand while warm, in batches of a few pounds, so the glaze stays on the kernel instead of settling to the bottom of the bag.

We keep more than 40 flavors in the case at our Spearfish, South Dakota shop, led by caramel, cheddar and kettle corn, our three best-sellers, plus rotating flavors like dill pickle, mac 'n cheese, sea salted caramel and cheesecake. Seasonal flavors like huckleberry appear in summer and pumpkin spice in fall. Anything on the shelf can be sampled before you buy, and any flavor can go into a mixed tin or gift basket.

Caramel and other coated popcorn stays fresh for a couple of weeks in a sealed bag; cheddar and savory flavors are best within the first week because the cheese softens the kernel over time. Store any of it sealed at room temperature, never refrigerated, which introduces moisture and makes popcorn chewy.

Yes. Popcorn is available in single bags, party boxes and refill tins, and we fill large bulk orders for parties, offices, weddings and events. Bulk orders pop fresh to order, so we ask for about a week's notice on large runs. Call 605-340-0470 to place one.

Popcorn itself is naturally gluten-free, and many of our flavors, including caramel and cheddar, contain no gluten ingredients. However, we make everything in one kitchen alongside flavors that contain wheat, so we cannot call any flavor certified gluten-free.
