Flavored Popcorn: Every Flavor on the Board

This is the honest tour of the flavored popcorn at Kernels & Kandies — what each flavor actually tastes like, who it's for, and which ones sell out.

More than 40 flavors rotate through 18 bins, all popped in small batches on-site. Not every flavor is in stock every day — if one specific flavor is the whole point of your trip, call 605-340-0470 first.

The classics

Caramel. Cooked in the kettle in small batches and coated thick. The flavor the shop was built on, and the benchmark everything else is judged against.

Kettle Corn. Lightly sweet, lightly salty, impossible to stop eating. The safest pick on the board and the one kids default to.

Sea Salted Caramel. The classic with a salted edge. For people who find straight caramel one note too sweet.

Chicago Style. Caramel and Orange Cheddar mixed in one bag — our best seller, and the flavor people call about from three states away.

The cheddars and the savory side

Orange Cheddar. The classic, coated while the popcorn is still warm. White Cheddar. Sharper and a little more grown-up. Mac 'N Cheese. Exactly what it sounds like, and a kid favorite.

Parmesan Garlic, Salt & Vinegar, Dill Pickle. The savory bench. Dill Pickle is the one people dare each other to try and then quietly finish the bag.

Cheese flavors are best within about a week — one more reason everything here is popped in small batches on-site instead of shipped in from a warehouse.

The spiced shelf

Southwest Jalapeño. Real heat, real flavor — the one bikers, ranchers and spice people ask for by name.

The spiced rotation changes; if you're chasing heat, ask at the counter what's on that week or call 605-340-0470 before you drive in.

The sweet and chocolate side

Kornfetti. The confetti one — sweet-coated and sprinkled, and the first thing kids point at through the glass.

Caramel Apple. The fall-fair flavor, minus the sticky chin.

Chocolate flavors rotate through the bins; they're also the first thing to watch in hot weather if you're shipping — mention it on the phone and we'll tell you honestly whether to ship chocolate or swap to caramel.

Cheesecake, candied and seasonal

The rotating cheesecake and candied flavors are where the small-batch model shows off — short runs, here until the bin empties.

Huckleberry runs in summer and pumpkin spice in the fall. When they're gone, they're gone. If a seasonal flavor is the reason for your trip or your order, call first.

Can't decide? Don't.

Every bag can mix flavors. The classic move is half Chicago Style, half something you discovered at the sample cup. In the shop, samples are always out; on the phone, tell us sweet, salty or both and we'll build the mix.

For gifting, the three-flavor tin at $34 exists precisely for the indecisive — and we ship to all 50 states.

Flavor questions

How many popcorn flavors does Kernels & Kandies have?

More than 40 flavors rotate through 18 bins — classics like Caramel and Kettle Corn, three cheddars, spiced flavors like Southwest Jalapeño, sweet and chocolate flavors, and seasonals like huckleberry in summer and pumpkin spice in fall. Not every flavor is in every bin every day, so call 605-340-0470 if you're coming for one specific flavor.

What is the best flavor to try first?

Chicago Style — caramel and Orange Cheddar mixed in one bag — is our best seller and the safest first pick. For kids, Kettle Corn, Kornfetti or Caramel. For spice people, Southwest Jalapeño. Samples are always on the counter, so you don't have to commit blind.

Can I mix flavors in one bag?

Yes — every bag can mix flavors, and splitting a bag is the normal way to buy here. Half Chicago Style and half something new from the sample cup is the classic move. The three-flavor gift tin ($34) is the gifting version of the same idea.

Which flavors are best for kids?

Kettle Corn, Kornfetti (the confetti one) and Caramel are the kid-proof picks. Mac 'N Cheese is a favorite for kids who want savory. Dill Pickle is the one kids dare each other to try — get a sample first.

Do you have seasonal flavors?

Yes — huckleberry runs in summer and pumpkin spice in the fall, and other short runs rotate through the bins. Seasonal flavors sell out and don't come back until the next season, so call 605-340-0470 before promising anyone huckleberry.

Can I order any flavor shipped?

Almost any flavor ships to all 50 states, bagged the day it ships. The exception is hot-weather chocolate: chocolate-coated flavors are at risk in a summer truck, so mention it when you call 605-340-0470 and we'll tell you honestly whether to ship it or swap to caramel.
