We're in the North Main strip, Suite B. Hours are posted on our Google Business Profile and Facebook page — we keep them current there rather than here, so a page like this can't go stale on you. If you're driving in from out of town for a specific flavor, call 605-340-0470 first and we'll tell you what's actually in the bins.

Fifteen minutes, or forty if you brought kids

Solo or a couple, buying popcorn. Ten to fifteen minutes. Come in, taste a few samples off the counter, pick your bags, out.

With kids. Budget half an hour minimum. The candy side is scoop-your-own with no minimum, which means a kid can spend real time making decisions about gummy worms. This is a feature, not a delay — it's the part of the trip they'll actually remember. There's a signature wall by the door that kids sign on the way out, and it takes as long as it takes.

Buying gifts to take home or ship. Twenty minutes if you know what you want. Our three-flavor tin is $34, the Black Hills basket is $58, and the 12-bag party box is $72. If you'd rather not carry it through the rest of your trip, we ship to all 50 states — pay here, we mail it, it's on your porch instead of melting in your car.

What to do with kids in downtown Spearfish

Kids in the Black Hills spend a lot of the day belted into a car seat looking at scenery they didn't ask for. A candy shop is the pressure valve.

The wall is scoop-your-own with no minimum, so you can hand a kid a small budget and let them run it — saltwater taffy, sours, gummies, Pop Rocks and popping candy, chocolate novelties, and giant lollipops we swirl by hand. On the popcorn side, the kid-proof flavors are Kettle Corn, Kornfetti (the confetti one) and Caramel. The one they'll dare each other over is Dill Pickle.

Then they sign the wall on the way out and it's theirs forever, or at least until we repaint.

Our Dino-Saurus Popcorn trailer has a kid menu too — Pickle-Saurus Rex, Mac-a-Saurus, T-Rex Treat, Red, White & Roar, Prehistoric Pop and Golden Dino Crunch, $6 to $14, with homemade lemonade at $5 and Wild Bill's soda at $4. The trailer is mobile, so it isn't parked out front — check our Facebook page for where it'll be this season.

Shopping in Spearfish, SD: the rest of the block

Downtown Spearfish is a walkable Main Street strip: independent shops, places to eat, and enough of a stretch to make an hour of it without a plan. That's the appeal — you can park once and wander.

If you want the current, honest version of what's open on the block — where to eat, where the coffee is, what's worth a look — ask us at the counter. We work here. We'll tell you.

How a Spearfish stop fits a Black Hills day trip

Most people passing through are doing some version of one of these:

Spearfish Canyon. The canyon is a short drive from downtown. The clean pattern is: drive the canyon in the morning while the light is good, come back into town, park on Main, eat, walk, and pick up popcorn for the road. Popcorn is a genuinely good car snack, which is not a claim you can make about ice cream.

Deadwood, about twenty minutes away. Deadwood is the evening half of the day for a lot of visitors. Spearfish is the daytime half. If you're heading down there later, buy your gifts here first and let them sit in the car — the caramel and cheddar hold fine at room temperature.

The Sturgis rally. Rally week changes the whole northern Hills. Spearfish gets busy, Main Street gets busy, and we get busy. If you want a big order during rally week, call 605-340-0470 well ahead — and check our Google Business Profile or Facebook page for rally-week hours.

Just passing on I-90. Spearfish is an easy pull-off. If you have twenty minutes, that's enough for a walk down Main and a bag of Chicago Style.

Take it home, or let us mail it

Will it survive the drive? Yes. Store it sealed at room temperature, never in the fridge. Cheddar and the savory flavors are best inside a week; caramel holds a couple of weeks. Don't leave it on a hot dashboard.

Can you just send it to my house? Yes — we ship to all 50 states, and we bag the popcorn the day it ships, so what arrives is fresher than what you'd be hauling around. Same for gifts going to somebody else: we include a gift message and don't put the invoice in the box. Call 605-340-0470, or if you're already at the counter, just tell us and we'll write it down. Here's how ordering and shipping works.

Visiting Spearfish, SD — common questions

What are the best things to do in Spearfish, SD, on a short stop?

For a short stop, drive Spearfish Canyon and then walk downtown Main Street — that combination gives you the scenery and the town in a few hours. Main Street is a walkable strip of independent shops and places to eat, so you can park once and browse. We're on it at 714 N. Main St. Suite B, and a popcorn-and-candy stop takes about fifteen minutes, or longer if there are kids involved.

Is downtown Spearfish worth stopping for?

Yes, if you like walkable small-town Main Streets with independent shops rather than chains. Downtown Spearfish is a compact strip you can cover on foot in under an hour, and it's the easiest break between Spearfish Canyon and the rest of the northern Black Hills. It's a stop, not a full day — plan an hour or two and pair it with the canyon or a Deadwood evening.

How far is Spearfish from Deadwood and Spearfish Canyon?

Deadwood is about twenty minutes from Spearfish, and Spearfish Canyon is a short drive from downtown. That proximity is why most Black Hills day trips can fit all three: canyon in the morning, Spearfish Main Street around lunch, Deadwood in the evening. If you're building that itinerary, buy anything you're taking home in Spearfish first — it keeps fine at room temperature in the car.

Where do I park in downtown Spearfish?

Downtown Spearfish is a park-once-and-walk strip, and the Google Maps pin for 714 N. Main St. Suite B will put you on the right block. If you're circling and frustrated, call 605-340-0470 and we'll talk you in — we can also have an order bagged and waiting so the stop stays quick.

Is there anything to do in Spearfish with kids?

Yes — downtown Spearfish is easy with kids because it's walkable and short. Our shop is a reliable stop: the candy wall is scoop-your-own with no minimum, so kids can spend a small budget themselves on taffy, gummies, sours, Pop Rocks and hand-swirled giant lollipops, and they sign our signature wall on the way out. Budget about half an hour. Kid-friendly popcorn flavors are Kettle Corn, Kornfetti and Caramel.

What are your hours?

Our current hours are posted on our Google Business Profile and our Facebook page, and that's where we keep them accurate — including holidays and Sturgis rally week, when they change. Please check there before driving over, especially if you're coming from out of town. If you want something set aside or you're arriving right at the edge of the day, call 605-340-0470 and we'll sort it out.

Can I order ahead and just pick it up?

Yes, local order-ahead pickup is free — call 605-340-0470, tell us flavors and quantities, and we'll have it bagged and waiting. This is the move if you're driving through on a tight schedule or you want a large amount. Large or bulk orders need about a week's notice, and more at the holidays. Small pickups can usually be same-day or next-day depending on what's in the bins.
